Anti-telemarketing script

telemarketer.gif“The Direct Marketing sector regards the telephone as one of its most successful tools. Consumers experience telemarketing from a completely different point of view: more than 92% perceive commercial telephone calls as a violation of privacy. Telemarketers make use of a telescript – a guideline for a telephone conversation. This script creates an imbalance in the conversation between the marketer and the consumer. It is this imbalance, most of all, that makes telemarketing successful. The EGBG Counterscript attempts to redress that balance.” Fantastic reference, this page shows you the complete flowchart to turn the tables on the telemarketers. Now all I have to do is get rude enough to run through this with one of them. Sometimes I just pretend I can’t hear very well, other times I ask questions while they’re talking, etc, but with all the blacklists and auto do-not-call lists, we don’t get them anymore. The few we do we tell them that they’re not allowed to call, and put us on the do-not-call list, they comply. Still, this is fun, would be nice to make it into a real script, one that would query known spam email servers with all sorts of junk without ever accepting the junk email!

Nice blog, I checked it out. Yeah, while people get frustrated with telemarketers, it’s just someone on the line doing their job, like it or not. Personally I used to like pretending I could only speak Spanish, but that’s just for fun, some people go crazy about it; that’s where I feel sorry for you guys (not your business, but for you as an individual). Here’s a nice person talking to a telemarketer…what a nut!

I love that flowchart. I used to be a telemarketer (it was a foot-in-the-door type job that I used to get a start in the company) and I have to say that all someone has to do is say, politely, “I’m not interested” and 90% of the time that’s enough for them to leave you alone. If they get huffy about it, then they’re breaking laws anyway and you should definitely try out a few of these questions and get enough information to sue the company.

Telemarketing has a super high staff turnover rate because it’s very high stress, simply from people getting abusive when they’re talking to someone who’s just doing their job. The typical telemarketer is about 18 years old and female, and a lot do the job to do things like pay their way through college or get started in an industry. Please take that into consideration before you start screaming and swearing as soon as some one says “I’m from company xyz”. Try asking first to be put on the do not call list and saying you’re not interested. If that doesn’t work, feel free to swear and scream and yell as much as you like. If it’s one of the girls at my office that you’re talking to, who’s breaking the rules like that, I’d say she deserves it.

Hahaha.. very nice. The only telemarketing I ever liked (the 1 in 100) was the free drink and appetizer at one of my favorite restaurants. I also had another telemarketer offer a free doctors exam, which actually helped my mother substantially with some of her health problems.

Even though most telemarketing crap, some can be ok :)

Nyaha! Definitely True! Some to most telemarketers are really bothersome especially if manage to disrupt your daily activities. Actually, I’m a telemarketer myself but we filter out our possible clients to the best possible way we can to avoid nuisances. And because of the New Legislation Policy(Do Not Call Legislation, telemarketers like ourselves have to find better ways to “reaching out to clients” or we could be in real deep trouble. Interesting Flow Chart by the way, I had fun..
