Fans and temp on Gusty just work. AFAIK conky is only a monitor, not a controller for the fans, but it's great to watch the temp. Aside from that, another thing that just works is the webcam; after my Gusty upgrade after the release I installed cheese - and ran it...webcam works. Not sure what else there is that I haven't tested (save for the modem), bbut feel free to ask away here though and I'll let you know. While the forums were invaluable to setup stuff before, I think it's all working by default now. I may reinstall, since you can encrypt partitions while installing, and I'm thinking of encrypting /home from the start now.After that I'm going to start working with 'PowerTop' and really try to get the laptop to run as efficiently as possible. For now I'm really liking the 'top, and it screams with Linux on it.

@h218<br

I also have the Vostro 1500, but I'm still running 7.04.Question: I installed gkrellm on that bad boy, to make sure the fans both worked with 7.04 (it was recommended by one of the Ubuntu Forum posts - people apparently thought it was getting too hot)... I am upgrading to 7.10 this weekend and was wondering if that's even necessary anymore, what with all the "just works" you experienced?Does Conky allow controlling the fans? Have you noticed the Vostro getting too hot?Thanks, and congrats again!

Congrats on the great laptop! Interesting, to be honest, I've always thought of Linux being very good with different languages due to it's extensive use of locales, but that's just within the OS, apps that provide this on their own (or provide more detail than what the OS has) need to build that themselves. I can see how a grammar checker would be important, while it might be strong for one language it would be different another. I wonder if there is an Open Source API that someone is working on to connect these.

@Leslie<br

As I use three languages, I need a grammar checker for the latter two, as the words contain accents so that I need to know when the E takes a É or é or ëThe spanish nunia is important.So far, Microsoft office 2003 helps me in this area. As for spelling, the firefox language dictionaries are superior to the OO dictionaries.Ergo, I need to dual boot, or be able to take my dvd and install office under WINE or Crossover.Eventually, KDE may have a good product, but we need a grammar checker.

I have a problem with today’s office products under linux.

I write in English, French and Spanish.
