The importance of understanding net netrality

To understand how importance is you need to watch the following video.  Think about the that the Internet allows you, now think about how you are limited to certain ‘packages’ when you pay for cable or satellite access to watch TV. This is exactly how the corporate behemoths want to make your choices for the Internet. It makes sense, they’re not stupid, they see the opportunity to make money, and making your into the proverbial carrot and stick makes perfect sense…for them.

  • I don't quite understand why ISPs would do this and how this would work. Seems a bit dramatised. Still, will be on the lookout for the internet apocalypse.

    >> why ISPs would do this

for the same reason that cable/satelite makes you buy 'packages', so they can sell you more and make more money.

    >> and how this would work

no one knows for sure, but say some cable company offers a new subscription to their 'enhanced' network; they'd allow you to hit certain URLs, but not all. Doesn't sound that great, but what if it was significantly cheaper than existing plans, then the masses may take the hook, which would lead to pricing plan wars from other ISPs intent on duplicating the first one's success. Soon we'll have a few ISPs, and they'll be dictating what we can see...that's the exact opposite of why the Internet was created.
